Scientific focus and expertise:
Modelling, elastic waves, acoustics, stress detection, random media, particulate materials, sensing, inverse methods.
Materials class:
metals, soft matter, particulates, porous, powders, anisotropic media.
Research challenge:
To design sensors to characterise and monitor complex materials. My focus is many on random materials, or anisotropic materials.
The random materials include: powders, emulsions, porous materials, particulates. The anisotropic materials include structural anisotropy (or texture anisotropy), or induce anisotropy due to stress.
The sensing methods I focus on use either acoustics or elastic waves, am potentially electromagnetic waves. The ultimate goal is to develop sensing method that are are robust, given measurement uncertainties, and as simple as possible.
Application:
sensing, material characterisation, material design, sound control, spectroscopy, particulates, scatterers.
Market Sector:
Chemical industries, rail transport, healthcare.
