Who is this event for?

The event targets metamaterials experts working across both academia and industry, together with experts in the space and aviation sectors who are interested in adopting metamaterials technology into future platforms.

What is this event?

Previous events for the Space and Aviation Challenge of the UK Metamaterials Network have identified a range of different opportunities for metamaterials in these sectors. They have also identified challenges in realising these in conventional space and aviation applications. However, changes across these sectors in recent decades presents new and alternative opportunities to integrate and demonstrate metamaterials in platforms that do not have some of the traditional constraints associated with the sector.

Following initial discussions, including in a dedicated session at the annual UKMMN conference, this event will start to scope out the details of demonstrators for metamaterials that harness these new platforms, such as UAV’s/Drones and Cubesats. These platforms will provide both tools to develop and test research, but also the capability to communicate the potential of metamaterials to key stake holders, including industry and funders. The expected outcome of the sandpit will be the initial formulation of a set of demonstrator ideas and a route map to taking them forward, including identification of key contributors.
